Peru moved up to 2nd place worldwide as exporters of avocados

Remarkable performance of agricultural production : in 15 years the country has come to climb to second place in the world 's largest exporters of avocados.

MINAGRI , the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that Peru is now the second largest exporter of avocados, behind Mexico (No. 1 worldwide) .

Its exports totaled 177,800 tonsof avocados and generated approximately USD 308 million in 2014.

15 years ago, avocado production was almost nonexistent in Peru. The very favorable weather conditions in some regions of the country have allowed to develop significant production and the growing international demand has encouraged the expansion of production.
