Appointment brings former government experience back into agricultural innovation.
Former Chilean agriculture minister Carlos Mladinic Alonso has assumed the role of vice president of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Agrarian Innovation (FIA), according to Frutas de Chile.
Mladinic, who served as agriculture minister between 1996 and 1999, was appointed as part of the formation of FIA’s new board for the current period.
The announcement followed a meeting with Agriculture Minister Jaime Campos, where both sides discussed the challenges facing Chile’s agricultural sector and the role innovation is expected to play in the industry’s future development.
According to the report, Mladinic highlighted his long-standing connection with FIA, recalling that he participated in the organisation’s inaugural session nearly 30 years ago. He added that the new board will focus on identifying innovation opportunities that can support Chilean agriculture and strengthen the country’s position as an agro-food producer.
He also stated that FIA’s work should contribute to making agriculture a stronger source of income for Chile while continuing to support domestic and global food supply.
