Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports are buoyant, with an increase of +28.1% in value recorded for the period January to May 2024.
Local media report that fruit and vegetable exports for the period January to May 2024 reached USD 2.59 billion. This represents an increase of 28.1% compared to the same period in 2023. The lychee is one of the major fruits that play an active role in the good performance of Vietnamese fruit on foreign markets.
But this year, according to the Department of Plant Production of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, unfavourable weather conditions have had an impact on lychee production. The latest estimates put national production at around 200,000 tonnes, almost half of what it will be in 2023.
Bac Giang province (29,700 hectares of lychees) is expected to produce 100,000 tonnes, only half of the 2023 figure. Exports from the province are expected to total just 70,000 tonnes this year.
