Value of Spanish fruit and vegetable imports grows 26% year-on-year through February

In Spain, the value of fresh fruit and vegetable exports during January and February this year reached 3,425 million euros, marking a modest year-on-year increase of 1%. Meanwhile, imports experienced a remarkable growth of 26%, totaling 802 million euros, according to data from the Customs and Excise Department.
In terms of volume, during the first two months of the year, Spain's fruit and vegetable exports increased by 6.5% compared to the same period last year, totaling 2.29 million tons. On the other hand, imports recorded an increase of 10.5%, reaching 698,083 tons.
Vegetable exports in January and February 2024 amounted to 1.3 million tons, experiencing a year-on-year growth of 15%. However, the value remained the same as in the first two months of 2023, with a slight increase of 0.6%, reaching €1,964 million. This resulted in a decrease in the average export price of 12%, standing at €1.49 per kilogram.
On the other hand, fruit exports totaled 974,511 tons (-3%) with a value of 1,461 million euros (+2%). The average price improved by 5%, reaching 1.50 euros per kilogram.
Imports
As for imports during January and February 2024, vegetables experienced a more remarkable growth, +17% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 402,758 tons with a value of 323 million euros (+36%).
For their part, fruit imports totaled 295,325 tons (+2.6%), with a value of 479 million euros (+20%).
