On March 13th and 14th, Rovigo, Italy hosted the garlic contact group, gathering leaders from the main garlic production and marketing organizations of France, Italy, and Spain, alongside officials from their respective administrations. These meetings mark the beginning of the 2024 product contact groups under the Joint Committee for Fruits and Vegetables, composed of the aforementioned three countries plus Portugal.
Following the garlic group, similar contact groups for tomato, strawberry, pear and apple, peach and nectarine, and table grape will take place throughout the first semester of 2024. A plenary meeting of the Joint Committee is scheduled for October.
Additionally, a new contact group for IV Range products has been established this year, gathering leaders from the production and marketing of prepared fruits and vegetables from all four countries, set for May.
Originally formed by France and Spain, the Joint Committee has evolved into a collaborative framework for the fruit and vegetable sectors, joined by Italy in 2011 and Portugal in 2009.
