Years of efforts and negotiations have now come to fruition for the South African avocado sector.
Local media are reporting that India has granted South African avocados access to its market. In less than 12 months, the South African avocado sector has seen 3 major Asian countries (China, Japan and India) open up their markets.
The final arrangements have yet to be determined, but industry professionals are optimistic and hope to start shipping as soon as possible.
In South Africa, avocado production spans almost the whole year: from March to October for green-skinned varieties and from March to November for dark-skinned varieties.
