Since the beginning of the campaign, which began just 6 weeks ago, the checks under the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) reported chlorpyrifos residues exceeding the rate allowed in lemons from Turkey.
The repetition of problems of the same type shows a system efficiency but also by the difficulty of Turkish exporters to comply with the rate imposed by the European Union.
AILIMPO, Spanish Interprofessional Association of lemons and grapefruit, wants to attract the attention of European supermarket chains and consumers on the frequency of these problems.
Exports of lemons in October 2016 were actually lower than in 2015, about 10 percent less and Russia, with 24 percent of total exports, remains the biggest buyer of Turkish lemons, followed by Iraq ( 12%), Saudi Arabia (10 percent), Poland (6%) and Ukraine (6%).
