Peruvian agroindustrial exports reach record figures through May

Between January and May 2024, Peruvian exports reached US$ 26,797 million, growing 5.5% compared to the same period of the previous year, driven mainly by the greater demand in the traditional sector, according to the Global Economics and Business Research Center of the Exporters Association (CIEN-ADEX).
Despite this increase, the president of the association, Julio Pérez Alván, expressed his concern about the fall in 7 of the 14 sectors. However, the agroindustry registered record figures.
The CIEN-ADEX Exports-May 2024 report detailed that traditional shipments totaled US$ 19,761 million, representing an increase of 9.4% and 73.7% of total exports. The agricultural sector showed a significant increase with US$ 237,801,000 (+48.6%).
Non-traditional exports totaled US$ 7,036 million, with a decrease of 4.2% compared to the same period in 2023. In turn, the agro-industrial sector showed a good performance with US$ 3,306,800,000 (+5.4%).
Among non-traditional products, avocado stood out with a FOB value of US$ 517.8 million, representing an increase of 19.6%. Other relevant products were grapes, blueberries, mangoes, among others. Blueberries were the most dynamic product in the agro-industrial sector, with a growth of 108.6%.
In traditional agriculture, the most dynamic product was coffee and its derivatives.
In May 2024, Peruvian exports totaled US$ 5,901.9 million, an increase of 23.3% compared to the same month of the previous year. Traditional shipments grew by 30.6%, while non-traditional shipments increased by 5.3%.
The trade balance from January to May closed with a surplus of US$ 5,386 million, with exports of US$ 26,797 million and imports of US$ 21,411 million.
