Uruguay was the top buyer, accounting for 50% of Brazil’s banana exports.
Brazil’s banana exports dropped by 13% in 2024, with the country shipping 49,000 tons, according to Comex Stat. This decline is mainly due to a lower supply of dwarf bananas and increased competition from Bolivia and Paraguay, especially in the Mercosur market during certain times of the year.
Uruguay was the top buyer, accounting for 50% of Brazil’s banana exports, followed by Argentina with 40% and the Netherlands with 5%. In December 2024, exports fell by 53% compared to November, with only 2.95 thousand tons shipped. This drop was expected due to limited supply. However, December’s export volume was still 79% higher than in December 2023, thanks to a temporary boost in supply caused by warm weather.
