Despite the difficulties linked to the COVID-19 pandemic which had raised fears of a sudden drop in Pakistan's mango exports, the partial results show a clearly positive result.
The revised target due to COVID-19 was 85,000 tonnes of mangoes exported for 2020. According to a report released by Gwadar Pro, the country has already exceeded its mango export target. The report, citing PFVA (Pakistan Fruit & Vegetable Exporters, Importers & Merchants Association), indicates that the country has already exported 125,000 tons of mangoes, which represents $72 million.
Pakistani exports have experienced some difficulties due to the pandemic and the resulting containment measures. But the mango sector adopted new strategies and benefited from opportunities. Thus PIA (Pakistan International Airlines) has granted freight discounts of up to 30% for mango exports. To further boost the export, Pakistani embassies in different countries organized events, presenting Pakistani mangoes to local people.
Pakistan exports mangoes to 40 countries around the world, ranking 6th in the world in terms of mango production and 5th in terms of mango exports.
