Spanish fruit and veg exports to Argentina on the rise

Spanish exports to Argentina reached 2,162 tons until August 2023, while imports totaled 28,235 tons. In percentage terms, Argentina represents 0.2% of Spanish exports and 1.2% of imports.
According to the most recent statistics from the Department of Customs and Excise for the period from January to August, this year, sales of Spanish fruits and vegetables to Argentina experienced an increase of 7% in volume and 34% in value compared to the same period in 2022. Although these numbers show significant growth, it is important to highlight that they remain at relatively low levels, totaling 2,162 tons and 2.6 million euros, respectively.
Regarding Spanish imports from Argentina between January and August of this year, 28,235 tons and 28.4 million euros were recorded, which represents a decrease of 9% in volume and 17% in value compared to the same period. in 2022.
When analyzing the most recent annual data, in 2022, Spanish exports of fresh fruits and vegetables to Argentina reached 3,093 tons, showing a decrease of 8% compared to 2021. Despite this decrease, the value totaled 3.3 million euros, reflecting an increase of 3%. In the big picture, Argentina represented only 0.02% of Spain's total exports in 2022, which amounted to 12 million tons, and 0.7% of exports outside Europe, which reached 452,528 tons.
Spanish imports in 2022 amounted to 46,253 tons, with a value of 49.6 million euros, representing 1.2% of the total imported by Spain that year, which was 3.8 million tons. Regarding the challenges related to suppliers from countries outside Europe, Argentina contributed 2.5% of the total purchased by Spain from non-European countries, a figure that reached 1.8 million tons.
