Works of 20 million euros to modernize the Barcelona market

Public/private partnership for the modernization of the Centre of Fruits and Vegetables of  the Barcelona market.

The Mayor of Barcelona and Mercabarna, the wholesale market of Barcelona, ??signed an agreement for the modernization of the market of fruits and vegetables. The Mayor is committed to provide an additional 17-year extension of the concessions which should be completed in 2020. This period will allow companies to have enough time to cover the investments needed.

The planned works concern the network of drinking water and sanitation, building structures, fire safety, ceilings, sidewalks, ramps and roads.

The Centre of Fruits and Vegetables of the market covers an area of 123,714 m2 in Mercabarna, 7 halls where 148 wholesalers and 11 agricultural cooperatives work. 1,047,920 tons of fruits and vegetables were sold in 2013.
