In 2023, Peru managed to secure the opening of eight new phytosanitary access points for its agricultural products, according to a statement from Peru's Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI).
Among the products that conquered new markets are the micro blueberry plant, which is now exported to Ecuador, and sunflower seeds, which are going to Argentina. Peru has also managed to introduce fresh pepper, seeds and fresh tomato fruit to Brazil, while fresh grapes have conquered the Japanese market.
The National Agricultural Health Service (SENASA), an entity attached to MIDAGRI, was responsible for managing access to these new markets. During 2023, SENASA granted phytosanitary certifications to 170,612 shipments, totalling 2,904,946 tons of agricultural products that found their way to various countries around the world.
