Packaging innovations and path to sustainability: BIG Interview with Alessandro Mariani, Infia
VU | Infia Srl
Infia is leading the way in sustainable packaging solutions, focusing on complete recyclability and reducing the carbon footprint of its products. Today, Fructidor speaks with Alessandro Mariani, Export Manager at Infia, who shares his thoughts on the current trends in the packaging industry, Infia’s global reach, and the company’s strategic responses to market needs.
Trends in packaging industry
Fructidor: Alessandro, could you share some insights on current trends in packaging, particularly how Infia is adapting?
Alessandro Mariani: At Infia, we are wholly committed to sustainability, with our efforts concentrated on achieving 100% recyclability for our products, which is key in the modern industry. Currently, we guarantee that 80% of our products are made from post-consumer recycled materials. One of our key initiatives is "Tray2Tray" where we ensure the trays are collected and recycled, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of our processes.
Impact of multinational integration on Infia's operations and global reach
Fructidor: Infia is part of Klockner Pentaplast, a large multinational group. How does being part of such a group affect your operations?
Alessandro Mariani: Being part of a large group like Klockner Pentaplast allows us to create vertical integration and synergies in the market. This strategic alignment helps us enhance our operational efficiency and innovate in the packaging sector.
Fructidor: How extensive is Infia's global reach?
Alessandro Mariani: We work with about 75 countries. Our model primarily involves using distributors or agents globally, which allows our partners direct access to our products, bypassing the need for centralized contact through our website.
Latest developments and innovation
Fructidor: Could you talk about any recent innovations at Infia?
Alessandro Mariani: Currently, our main innovation focus is on enhancing sustainability. We don't have new product innovations per se, but our commitment to sustainability is an ongoing process of improvement.
Fructidor: Why should potential customers choose Infia over competitors?
Alessandro Mariani: Our competitive edge lies in our extensive distributor network globally, our strong reputation among European retailers, and having the highest recycled value in the market. These factors make us a preferred choice for growers and packers who are our main customers.
Fructidor: How do you interact with trade shows, and what are your goals there?
Alessandro Mariani: We actively participate in various international trade shows, including Asia Food Logistic. Our goal at these events is primarily to meet with existing customers, especially Italians, and some distributors of upcoming products. These interactions help us maintain and expand our market presence.
Market trends
Fructidor: Have you noticed any market trends, particularly regions where you are gaining more customers?
Alessandro Mariani: Certainly, the Middle East has shown significant growth, mainly for berries. This region is becoming increasingly important for us due to its market potential and our strong distribution network.
