GPFS 2025 general session: leading through turbulence
Three industry leaders’ CEO from different continents shared during the second general session's debate of GPFS 2025 their experience on how co-leaders need to adapt on turbulent times.
Alexis Taylor chief global policy officer at the International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) moderated the panel with John Anderson, chairman and CEO of The Oppenheimer Group in Canada, Adriëlle Dankier the CEO of Nature's Pride in The Netherlands, John Simko the president & CEO of Sunshine Bouquet Company.
Diversify, strengthen advantages and take right decisions
According to John when facing a shrinking market environment it is time to look at diversification, new products and markets. For Adrielle during difficult times the priority is to focus on the core business goals of the company, which are the produce quality delivered and the customers satisfaction. “We rather focus on what the people can do to improve our products and services, rather than be super-engaged on the objectives and new projects” said Adrielle. For John Simko who leads a major bouquet company, anticipate market demand is the key issue, since it is needed to plant 2 years in advance the flowers we want to market. If predictions get wrong, quick decisions are to be made only after a good analysis of the situation. “Be as transparent and honest as possible with your team on the new directions that need to be taken” shared John.
