India is emerging as a promising destination for Chilean cherries. During the course of the current 2023/24 export season, cherry shipments have maintained levels comparable to last year, reaching 444 tonnes, according to revelations from the Chilean Fruit Cherry Committee.
Claudia Soler, executive director of the Committee, highlighted that this year marks a milestone with the arrival of the Cosco CSCL Star ship to India in a record time of 36 days, with only one stopover.
So far, Lapins and Regina varieties are leading exports to India, distributed mainly through high-end retail outlets and e-commerce platforms, for which demand is growing.
Looking ahead, the Committee aims to develop a strategy to boost cherry consumption in India, coordinating actions with importers and distributors.
Since the 2020/21 season, the Committee has carried out promotional actions in this market, under the slogan "Cherry-sh every moment". This includes public relations, promotions with retailers and wholesalers, as well as collaborations with influencers on various social media platforms.
