Red kiwi: decision by the end of the year for marketing

Despite conclusive sales tests in New Zealand's supermarkets and in Singapore, Zespri will decide by the end of the year whether the red kiwifruit will become a cash crop.

 

 

 

About 30,000 trays of red kiwifruit were sold in New Zealand supermarkets over a 5-week period and shipped to Singapore. The response from consumers has been exceptional, according to Zespri's management. Its bright color and very sweet flavor were very appreciated.

 

 

 

The current phase is to gather information and Zespri announced that the decision would be made later in the year for commercialization.

 

 

 

However, red kiwifruit will be available again in small quantities next year. The current trial orchards should produce volumes similar to those of this season.
