Spanish imports in 2026 grow by 5.5%

Spanish imports of fresh fruits and vegetables totaled 2.2 million metric tons from January through May 2026, up 5.5% from the same period the previous year, and the value also rose by 3.5%, totaling 2,656 million euros. Fruits accounted for the strongest growth in both volume and value, in contrast to the decline in the value of vegetable imports. Spanish imports of fresh fruits and vegetables from January through May 2026 totaled 2.2 million metric tons, representing a 5.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to data from the Department of Customs and Special Taxes, processed by FEPEX.

678,237 metric tons of potatoes

By category, fruits accounted for the overall growth, with 1,070,416 metric tons imported—an 8% increase compared to January–May 2025. Vegetable imports also increased, albeit more moderately, to 1,125,696 metric tons—3% more than during the same period the previous year. By product, potatoes remained Spain’s top import, with 678,237 metric tons through May 2026—a figure that remained virtually unchanged compared to the same period the previous year (-0.4%).
