Exports from Lebanon can no longer pass through Syria, the usual route for shipments to Gulf countries.
The Syrian border closure has serious implications for agricultural exports from Lebanon.
Nearly 70 trucks carrying nearly 7,000 tons of fruits and vegetables have not been allowed to enter Syria, the usual route of exports from Lebanon.
This closure is a disaster for Lebanon. The Association of Lebanese farmers demand
the purchase or leasing of ferries for transporting trucks by sea to Egypt, where products can be shipped to Gulf markets.
Nearly 80% of Lebanon's agricultural exports go through Syria to reach the Gulf and the rest is shipped to Europe via the port of Beirut.
