Projected increases for Egyptian table grape production and exports

In Egypt, table grapes come just after citrus fruits in terms of production quantities.
According to the recent GAIN report compiled by the USDA, Egyptian production of table grapes is expected to reach 1,480,000 tons in the 2022/23 marketing year, representing a variation of +3.13 compared to the 2021/22 marketing year. %.
The report also indicates that the domestic consumption of fresh grapes in the 2022/23 campaign should reach 1,300,000 tonnes, i.e. compared to the 2021/22 campaign, a variation of +2.12% compared to the previous campaign.
For this 2022/23 campaign, exports should reach 180,000 tonnes, i.e. a variation of +5.88% compared to the 2021/22 campaign. The main destinations in the previous campaign were the European Union and the United Kingdom, which accounted for 58% of the total volume exported. Other markets: Russia (23%) and Saudi Arabia (10%).
The harvested area is expected to reach 51,000 hectares, slightly larger than the 49,500 hectares of the 2021/22 campaign. Seedless varieties Thompson and Flame dominate Egyptian production, which has also diversified with varieties such as Early Superior, Superior and Roomy.
