After steady growth over the past 10 years, world exports of fresh blueberries are expected to decline slightly for the 2023/24 season and then rebound.
The report, issued by Rabobank's RaboResearch, estimates that world exports of fresh blueberries in the 2023/24 season are likely to record a negative variation on the previous season. The 2023/24 season is thus likely to be the 1st season in which exports will be down on previous years.
This predicted decline is due to lower export volumes from Peru, caused by a warm winter which delayed the harvest and will have a negative impact on yields. Secondly, the consequences of the El Niño phenomenon should further limit Peruvian exports in the 2024/25 season, but in the longer term, export volumes will improve.
The report estimates that by 2026/27 world exports of fresh blueberries will exceed 1 million tonnes.
