In the fruit and vegetable sector, Europe continues to be a crucial destination for Spanish exports, representing 97% of all exports in 2023, equivalent to 16,334 million euros out of a total of 16,885 million, according to Spanish media.
Europe is consolidating its position as the main market for Spanish fruit and vegetable exports, due to the lack of alternatives in other continents. In recent years, Europe's share has increased, as in 2019 exports totalled 13,111 million euros, representing 95% of a total of 13,774 million. Last year, that figure rose to €16.334 billion, equivalent to 97% of the total.
Outside Europe, sales have declined in recent years. In 2019, exports to markets outside Europe totalled €663 million, 5% of the total, while in 2023 they were €520 million, just 3% of the total.
Within Europe, the European Union is the main market with 13,696 million euros, 81% of the total and an increase of 7% compared to 2022. The United Kingdom is the second market with 2,047 million euros in 2023.
