Jordanian products exported to the UAE should be accompanied by official certificates for pesticide residues.
The decision by the United Arab Emirates to refuse imports of fruit and vegetables that did not include official certificates on the absence of pesticide residues prompted Jordan to strengthen its security measures and procedures.
The new requirements of the United Arab Emirates will enter into force in the middle of this month. Several Jordanian products would be threatened with banning, including courgettes, peppers, aubergines, cabbage, green beans and lettuce.
The Ministry of Agriculture of Jordan has stated that measures to eliminate pesticide residues have already been taken into account. The regulation is strengthened, so the use of certain chemicals is no longer allowed on several products and strongly limited for others.
