Arrival of a new variety of apple: Rosinette

Start of commercialization of a new "Rosinette" apple variety (Q300), in Quebec.

"Rosinette" obtained the patent and authorization for marketing to the general public announced the collective of producers "La Pomme de Demain".

"The Apple of Tomorrow" is working through hybridization works and planting in experimental plots to create new varieties of apples.  It was thanks to the crossing in May 1994, between a hybrid of New Jersey (NJ75) and an  unknown apple tree which born Rosinette. Since that first crossing, over 6000 hybrids were created. Rosinette is the first variety of the collective that has passed the milestone leading to its commercialization.

The Rosinette has several features that make it an interesting variety both for consumers and producers. "The fruit is mature in the last two weeks of September and early October. It has good storability, which extends its marketing period until April, "says Roland Joannin, initiator of" The Apple of tomorrow "and breeder for over 25 years.
