Increased biological area and increased demand for organic food.
The trend observed in recent years is increasing, with a record of certified biological areas (50.9 million hectares) and record demand (USD 81.6 billion).
According to data from FiBL and IFOAM, at the end of 2015, organic farming in the world is practiced on 50.9 million hectares, the market of organic products generates a turnover of 81.6 billion USD.
The area has increased by 6.5 million hectares, reaching a total of 50.9 million hectares, 179 countries report organic farming activities and 2.4 million organic producers are recorded. Australia is the country with the largest organic farming area (22.7 million hectares), followed by Argentina (3.1 million hectares) and the United States (2 million hectares). Europe has 12.7 million hectares (25%) and Latin America 6.7 million hectares (13%).
The United States is the world's largest market with a turnover of 35.9 billion euros, followed by Germany (8.6 billion euros), France (5.5 billion euros) and China (€ 4.7 billion). In the base year, most of the major markets showed double-digit growth rates.
