The Tahiti lemon is the third most exported fruit by Colombia. From January to November 2022, the country exported 48,272 tons of fruit for $76.6 million, which reflects a year-on-year increase of 32% in volume and 66% in value, according to Procolombia.

Some 86 exporting companies in 17 departments grow acid limes in Colombia, which are later destined for 23 markets around the world, with the United States being the main buyer.

In the analyzed period, sales to the US amounted to $43.3 million, showing an increase of 179% compared to 2021. Other important destinations are the Netherlands, Germany, Puerto Rico, Guadeloupe, France, Spain, Martinique, Curaçao, Canada, Italy and Turkey.

Shipments in the first half of 2023 are expected to continue to increase due to the admissibility of the fruit in the Dominican Republic and the United Kingdom.
