According to AUGURA (Asociación de bananeros de Colombia), sales of Colombian bananas on international markets have increased in value and volume.
For AUGURA, the 2018 sales export of Colombian bananas reached $859.2 million, an amount higher than the $850 million recorded in 2017. In terms of volumes, Colombia exported 100.49 million cartons in 2018, a volume 2.5% higher than the 98.01 million exported in 2017.
To reinforce this development, the establishment of a denomination of origin for Colombian banana is one of the projects of the sector.
The main destinations remain the EU and the United States, but the sector also relies on the conquest of new markets. A few weeks ago, the first shipment of a Colombian banana container to the Chinese market took place.
