Anecoop promotes the commercialization of green papaya.
Anecoop, a Spanish cooperative company, one of the leaders in the commercialization of fruit and vegetable products, presents a new product on the market - the green papaya.
It is a product whose consumption is like a vegetable and is grown throughout the year mainly in areas with a subtropical Mediterranean climate, such as Almería and Murcia in Spain, with production peak between the months of January and February. It differs from ripe papaya both in the exterior color, which is completely green and does not have any yellow hue, as in the interior, since its pulp is white instead of orange.
In Europe, this product is still a novelty, compared to Asian countries, South America and Central America, where its consumption is more widespread. In fact, Anecoop is one of the pioneer companies in growing green papaya on the national territory with the aim of commercializing it on the European continent, in addition to being the commercializing company that consolidates large volume, with harvest forecasts for this campaign of 500 tons and more.
One of its competitive advantages over imported papaya is that it is a local product due to its proximity to European markets, which reduces transport times and minimizes the impact on the carbon footprint.
According to the nutritional evaluation report carried out by the Complutense University of Madrid, green papaya has a low energy value and constitutes an important source of fiber and vitamin C, since the consumption of 100gr of this fruit covers more than 45% of the Intake Recommended Daily for this vitamin. In addition, thanks to the papain enzyme it contains, it facilitates the digestion of proteins in food. It is a highly nutritious that can be eaten cooked, fried as an ingredient in fresh smoothies, or even as an attractive ingredient for salads, pasta, rice and desserts.
Anecoop is currently one of the main papaya operators nationwide, with 30 hectares of cultivation, it has specific centers for handling papaya in the different production areas, as well as having exclusive lines for the hospitality industry.
Together with its partner companies and cooperatives, Anecoop promotes and participates in projects that help to guarantee farmers and professionals who make up these entities a stable future for themselves and their families within their environment, trying to avoid abandoning rural areas, mainly by searching for new crops.
