Lima wholesale markets receive nearly 7,900 tonnes of fresh produce

Official figures point to firm availability across the capital’s main food distribution centres.
Lima’s two main wholesale markets received 7,899 tonnes of agricultural products on 8 July, supported by strong supplies of potatoes, vegetables, tubers and fruit.
The Gran Mercado Mayorista de Lima received 5,721 tonnes of vegetables, legumes and tubers, according to Peru’s Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, MIDAGRI.
This was 6.1% above the average recorded over the previous four Wednesdays.
Potato arrivals reached 1,988 tonnes, exceeding the four-week Wednesday average by 4.5%. MIDAGRI said stocks at Lima’s wholesale markets remained high.
Main vegetable prices
Carrots were among the lowest-priced vegetables at PEN 0.63 (USD 0.19) per kg. Canchan potatoes were offered at PEN 0.90 (USD 0.26), while Yungay potatoes stood at PEN 0.96 (USD 0.28) per kg.
Other notable prices included green broad beans at PEN 1.25 (USD 0.37) per kg, yellow sweet potatoes at PEN 1.45 (USD 0.43) and Huayro potatoes at PEN 1.50 (USD 0.44).
Peruanita potatoes were available at PEN 1.53 (USD 0.45), bagged limes at PEN 1.67 (USD 0.49) and red onions at PEN 1.78 (USD 0.52) per kg.
Macre squash sold for PEN 1.83 (USD 0.54) per kg, yellow potatoes for PEN 1.93 (USD 0.57) and green peas for PEN 1.95 (USD 0.57).
Yellow cassava was priced at PEN 2.05 (USD 0.60), American green beans at PEN 2.38 (USD 0.70) and long olluco at PEN 2.58 (USD 0.76) per kg.
Fruit arrivals remain strong
The Wholesale Fruit Market No. 2 in La Victoria received a further 2,178 tonnes of fruit.
Valencia oranges were among the most affordable options at PEN 0.81 (USD 0.24) per kg. Watermelon was offered at PEN 1.20 (USD 0.35), coquito melon at PEN 1.54 (USD 0.45) and bizcocho bananas at PEN 1.58 (USD 0.47).
Other wholesale fruit prices included jungle-grown tangelo oranges at PEN 1.89 (USD 0.56) per kg, Hawaiian pineapples at PEN 2.03 (USD 0.60) and Golden pineapples at PEN 2.30 (USD 0.68).
Criollo avocados were offered at PEN 2.33 (USD 0.69), papayas at PEN 2.35 (USD 0.69) and standard apples at PEN 2.66 (USD 0.78) per kg.
Satsuma mandarins were priced at PEN 2.83 (USD 0.83), purple prickly pears at PEN 3.45 (USD 1.02) and Alfonso Lavallée grapes at PEN 3.75 (USD 1.10) per kg.
Granadillas sold for PEN 4.04 (USD 1.19), strawberries for PEN 4.40 (USD 1.30) and Italia grapes for PEN 4.73 (USD 1.39) per kg.
