Expected stability for the production of apples, pears, grapes
FJ
The South African production is announced roughly stable.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture, in its interim reports on global production, announced a stable production of apples, pears, and grapes in South Africa for 2014 .
For apples and pears: no appreciable expansion of cultivation and production costs increase, production will be similar to the previous year. Exports could fall by 10-16%, due to hail and rain which will affect the fruits and reduce export volumes. The 2013 campaign saw record production of apples and pears (+9% compared to the previous year) and grapes (+5%).
Important customer for products of South Africa, Europe imported 38% of total exports of apples, 70% of total exports of pears and 79% of total exports of grapes in 2013.
