The demand for quality fruits and vegetables in Asia and emerging markets will weigh on European volumes available and therefore prices.
A new trend in the world market of fruits and vegetables is that the demand for quality fruits and vegetables is increasing.
The new middle classes of China, India and other emerging countries are more prosperous and changing their eating habits. Demand is strong for quality local products and also for foreign products of high quality.
This increased demand for
fruits and vegetables is recognised by European distributors in China and the Middle East. But these new market opportunities for European production should lead to higher prices.
The available volumes are not infinitely expandable, but if external demand continues to grow, producers will be more demanding in terms of price.
