NZKGI (New Zealand Kiwifruit Growers Incorporated) forecasts a very satisfactory season with volumes significantly higher than the previous season. However, some disturbances could cloud the forecasts.
According to NZKGI forecasts, the sector expects another exceptional season with around 155 million trays expected across the country. This year's harvest is expected to be well above the 147 million trays exported in 2019.
However, NZKGI believes that potential obstacles could disrupt this season. Problems related to dry weather, the consequences of the Covid-19 epidemic and the availability of seasonal labor for the sector.
Kiwi is New Zealand's largest horticultural export, with the Bay of Plenty region contributing NZD 1.45 billion to the sector.
