Citrus growers in southern Turkey are forecasting a 10% increase in their exports this year. For some destinations including the European countries, the progression could be much higher.
The National Citrus Council, according to local media, said that despite a delay of two weeks early in the season, professionals in southern Turkey predict a 10% increase in exports. Last year they had exported 1.74 million tons of citrus fruit.
This year, the export season started well with volumes of 5,800 tonnes per week. With regard to current destination markets, Russia comes first, followed by Iraq. Exports to Europe have already increased by 25% compared to last year.
