Edeka takes first place once again
Edeka’s fruit and vegetable sections are once again the best among the large retail chains in Germany.
At the German Fruit & Vegetable Congress in Düsseldorf this week, Edeka was presented with the Retail Award 2026 in the ‘Full-range Food Retailer’ category. With this, its tenth award, the EDEKA group underlines its long-standing expertise in the fruit and vegetable sector. The award is based on a nationwide consumer survey of around 7,000 households, conducted by the market research institute YouGov on behalf of Fruchthandel magazine.
Consumers impressed
A total of ten criteria relating to the shopping experience in the fruit and vegetable departments were assessed, including selection, quality and value for money. Edeka once again impressed consumers and secured the top spot amongst full-range retailers in the German food retail sector.
Quality and variety as key success factors
Particularly appreciated are the wide selection of regional products and the own-brand ranges “Gut & Günstig” and “Edeka Herzstücke”, which stand for variety and quality at attractive prices. The regionally tailored range, featuring numerous organic products, caters to a variety of needs and dietary preferences. The Edeka group is continuously developing this range, focusing on long-term partnerships with producers and more sustainable farming methods throughout the supply chain.
Strong partnerships for the freshest produce
A key factor in the group’s success is its close collaboration with agricultural partners in Germany and worldwide. EDEKA Fruchtkontor coordinates the group-wide procurement of fruit and vegetables, relying on direct relationships with more than 1,000 farms in around 90 countries. Around half of the agricultural producers are based in Germany. Every day, Fruchtkontor supplies the logistics centres of the six regional wholesale operations, as well as Netto Marken-Discount, with fresh produce.
