By October, Brazil accounted for 43% of Argentina’s apple export volume.
Argentina is on track for one of its strongest apple export seasons in a decade, driven almost entirely by Brazil. Between January and October 2025, the country shipped 81,600 tonnes, up 21% year-on-year and 8% above the five-year average. Brazil bought 43% of that volume — its highest share in ten years — with more than 35,100 tonnes absorbed, according to Latin media outlets.
Brazil anchors the rebound
Exports to Brazil jumped from 9,800 tonnes in 2017 to over 35,000 in 2025, consolidating the recovery of the Alto Valle sector. Importers point to predictable payments and steady demand, even in turbulent periods, as key advantages of the Brazilian market.
A favourable exchange rate — with the real averaging 5.36 per USD — improved Argentina’s competitiveness against other Southern Hemisphere origins. Upgrades in packing, storage and traceability helped sustain quality and strengthen buyer confidence.
Only supplier with year-on-year growth
Brazil imported nearly 170,000 tonnes of apples in the first ten months of 2025. Chile led with 90,600 tonnes, followed by Argentina with 34,600 and Italy with 24,500. Of the three, Argentina was the only exporter to grow, while Chile and Italy declined — a sign of improved logistics and supply consistency.
Stable prices support planning
FOB prices to Brazil averaged USD 0.96/kg, 31% above 2020 and the third-highest of the past decade. The stability, supported by quality and postharvest improvements, gives exporters room to plan ahead.
Outlook: above 90,000 tonnes
With supportive demand and operational strength — including the continued role of the port of San Antonio — Argentina could finish 2025 above 90,000 tonnes, securing its position as Brazil’s second-largest supplier and a key actor in the Southern Hemisphere.
The challenge now is turning momentum into long-term strategy through market diversification, value addition and consistent quality.
