Costa Rica allocates $117,000 to banana and plantain growers

Costa Rica has allocated CRC 53.4 million (about USD 117,000) to support banana and plantain producers in the Bribri Indigenous Territory, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG).

The funding will benefit 47 farming families through the provision of inputs intended to improve their production systems. The initiative forms part of a wider programme being carried out by MAG and the Mixed Institute for Social Aid (IMAS) in the Huetar Caribbean region.

Separate farm-improvement work is also supporting local banana production through the use of bioinputs in Bribri and Cabécar communities.

The measures are part of government efforts to strengthen agricultural production and provide farming families in Limón province with resources for developing their activities.
