Lemon exports grow by 15% and new markets are targeted

In Turkey, exports season of citrus fruits and in particular lemons is satisfactory. Lemon exports have increased by 15% in volume and the sector wants to open new markets.
Turkey has exported 1.7 million tonnes of citrus fruit this season, including 563,703 tonnes of lemons, up 15% from the previous season, according to the National Citrus Council. This result is very satisfying because of the unfavorable conditions that marked the beginning of the season.
According to the organization, these exports had the main destinations Russia and Iraq with 142,000 tons, then Ukraine with 53,000 tons, Saudi Arabia with 38,000 tons and Romania with 27,000 tons.
The organization wants to develop new distant markets and in particular, China. The procedures are ongoing and the opening of this market could take place next season.
