Peruvian blueberries and citrus fruits are entering Indian market

The Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Welfare of Farmers of India (DAC & FW) authorized the access of Peruvian fruits to the Indian market. Among the approved fruits are oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, lemons and blueberries, according to the National Agrarian Health Service of Peru (Senasa).
The phytosanitary requirements for import of these fruits were published by the phytosanitary authorities of the Government of India in their official gazette, after the public consultation period had concluded.
The agreements were achieved thanks to the efforts of Senasa. The organisation will be responsible for ensuring that the requirements established by both countries are met, through phytosanitary certification.
To be exported to India, the products must come from certified fields and have been processed in packing houses authorized by Senasa. Shipments must obtain phytosanitary certification, and to be subjected to a cold treatment, as a measure to prevent the entry of quarantine pests.
India is the second most populous country in the world and may become the first, thanks to its constant and sustained population growth rates, which would increase the consumer demand for fresh products, generating greater opportunities for Peruvian producers.
