Walnuts: Abundant world production and forecast rise in exports

For 2023/24, world walnut production should reach a volume as high as that of 2022/23 and exports should increase by +6%.
According to a report issued by USDA, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, world production of inshell walnuts in 2023/24 is estimated at 2.7 million tonnes, the same volume as the previous season.
China, the world's leading producer, should record a production volume of around 1.4 million tonnes, similar to 2022/23. The USA is expected to produce 689,000 tonnes (+1%), Chile 198,000 tonnes (+3%), and the EU 150,000 tonnes (-8%).
Global exports should reach 1 million tonnes (+6% on 2022/23). Chinese exports should reach 245,000 tonnes (+3%), while US exports should reach 450,000 tonnes (+15%). The EU is expected to import around 300,000 tonnes (+11%) to meet demand.
