The German market remains the primary destination for Spanish horticultural exports, maintaining percentages in line with previous years. In 2022, Spanish sales in Germany reached 3.1 million tons and 4.44 billion euros, contributing to 26% of the total exported volume and 28% of the total value.
France is the second-largest destination, with shipments of 1.4 million tons 2.066 billion euros. Within the EU, the Netherlands takes the third spot, with 645,163 tons and 1 million euros, while Italy holds the fourth position with 482,745 tons and 660,942 euros.
These four countries collectively accounted for 60% of the total exports by September 2023, underscoring the significance and resilience of the European market for the Spanish horticultural sector. In aggregate, fresh fruit and vegetable sales to the EU reached 6.9 million tons and 10.17 billion euros in the January-to-September 2023 period, constituting 83% of the total.
