Agreement establishes verification and traceability measures to ensure export orchards comply with national forest regulations.
The agreement was signed between the Association of Avocado Producers and Packers Exporters of Mexico (APEAM), the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), and the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA). It sets out procedures to strengthen monitoring of orchards and ensure that avocado production does not involve land cleared illegally from forest areas.
According to APEAM, the initiative aligns with Mexico’s environmental regulations and aims to reinforce traceability across the export supply chain. The framework includes mechanisms to identify production units that may present environmental risks and to guide corrective actions where irregularities are detected.
Authorities indicated that the agreement supports ongoing efforts to maintain legal compliance in the avocado sector while safeguarding forest resources in producing regions. The system is expected to operate through coordinated inspections, documentation checks and verification of land-use status linked to export operations.
APEAM stated that the measure forms part of broader work to ensure that avocado exports continue to meet regulatory and environmental requirements in international markets.
