A MINTEL study reveals that pasta sales have tumbled to very low levels. This decline could be explained by the boom of vegetable spirals which make it possible to make dishes with the shapes of well-known pasta, spaghetti, but based on courgettes, carrots and other products.
The trend is to diet-health and low-carbohydrate diets. In the country, almost 1/4 of adults restrict carbohydrates for health reasons and 1/5 replace pasta and rice for vegetables.
The volume of pasta sold in the United Kingdom has declined in recent years. In 2009, volumes sold represented 410,000 tons, this year volumes sold are expected to reach only 350,000 tons.
