In Japan, peaches and nectarines, consumed mostly fresh, are considered a luxury, which limits their presence in the traditional diet. A recent USDA report indicates that for the 2024-2025 season, a 0.5% drop in consumption is expected, reaching 110,300 tons.
Nectarine imports from the US will remain at 300 tons, while Japanese exports of fresh peaches will fall by 4.6% due to the decrease in domestic production.
Peach production, mainly of white varieties, continues to be affected by adverse weather conditions. In addition, the cultivated area in Japan will be reduced to 9,235 hectares in the next season, reflecting the lack of young farmers and the release of less productive land.
