Pear crop a beauty
Australia

This year's Australian pear crop has been described as excellent quality.
Apple and Pear Australia Ltd said the pear harvest wound up last week with the fruit to fill supermarket shelves for the next 6 months.
The Packham variety produced a big crop of brilliant quality, and there will be a full export program into Canada this year.
Williams pear volumes are slightly down due to tree removal and lack of water, but the quality is still very good.
Packham and Williams varieties make up about 70% of domestic pear production, which is typically about 180,000 tons, with Buerre Bosc accounting for about 20%. Some 90% of Australia's pears are grown in the Goulburn Valley.
APAL attributed the good crop to generally good conditions in that region.
