British chain Asda will double its purchases of table grapes from India.
Asda, a subsidiary of Wal-Mart in the UK, will increase purchases of Indian grapes.
The chain imported 80 containers of table grapes in 2011 and will double that volume in 2012.
The change in export volume is the result of collaboration with Bharti Walmart stores.
The Indian chain has launched a program called Direct Farm which aims to help Indian farmers through better training and export assistance. The Direct Farm program involves more than 4,000 farmers in the regions of Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
