Peruvian table grape exports would reach a historical record in 2022

In the 2021/2022 campaign, Peru would export a total of 550.000 tons of table grapes, 17% higher than the 470.000 tons exported in the previous campaign, which would mean a historical record, according to the president of the consulting firm Inform@cción, Fernando Cillóniz Benavides.
At the end of the current season, in March 2022, table grape shipments would reach $1.3-$1.4 billion, while last season they reached $1.15 billion.
Cillóniz commented that the price for this fruit in the current season is above the price of the previous one. The rise is due to the fact that Peru left behind the Crimson, Redglobe, Flame and Superior varieties and focused on patented varieties, of higher value, and that also provide higher production yield per hectare.
According to the president, Ica, Piura and other regions have ventured into this crop, as is the case of Lambayeque (Olmos) and Arequipa, among others. He added that Moquegua and Tacna could also join this export crop soon.
