VERACRUZ is the No. 1 region in Mexico for the production of oranges.
SAGARPA, the Secretariat of Agriculture, said the country has consolidated its position as the 5th largest producer of oranges. Average annual volume of 4.2 million tonnes.
According to national statistics, production in 2015 totaled 4.5 million tonnes, more than the average of the last 10 years.
Turnover of $ 17.7 million for exports to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Japan. Mexico is exploring potential new markets such as Germany, Russia, France, Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong.
The main producing regions are Veracruz (44.5% of the total volume), Tamaulipas (14.6%) and San Luis Potosi (8.8%). The production of oranges is also present in the states of Nuevo Leon, Puebla, Yucatan, Sonora, Tabasco, Hidalgo and Oaxaca.
