California Bartlett pear shipments increase despite lower prices

Northern California shipped more Bartlett pears as the new crop entered the market, according to the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service.

Shipments, including volumes from the San Joaquin Valley, increased from 44 to 52 and then 61 across three reporting periods. USDA expected movement to remain broadly stable after the latest rise.

Trading was moderate, but prices moved lower. Tight-fill 36-pound cartons of size 90 Bartletts ranged from $29 to $35.50, while size 100 fruit was quoted at $26–28.90.

Wrapped 40-pound cartons of sizes 70 and 80 were priced at $34–39.50. Prices for smaller sizes varied, with size 120 fruit ranging from $25.50 to $30.90.

Washington’s 2026 pear movement was only beginning, rising from zero in the first two periods to nine in the latest week. Supplies remained light, with greater seasonal movement expected.
