Tesco removes biodegradable bags
MD
The biodegradable bags are more harmful to the environment than conventional plastic bags, is the conclusion of a study of the European Plastics Recyclers association.
According to this association, oxo-biodegradable bags are unlikely to degrade in landfills due to the absence of light and oxygen. The association underlines the negative impact of these bags and calls for greener alternatives.
Tesco, which distributed more than 2 billion oxo-biodegradable bags last year asked for changes in their composition. The new Tesco bag will contain more biodegradable additive but will consist of 15% recycled materials to facilitate reuse.
