In 2019, China authorized the importation into its market of 13 new varieties of fruit from 12 countries. The number of fresh fruit varieties approved for import into the Chinese market is now over 200.
With the increase in imported volumes, China has also increased the number of varieties of fresh fruit authorized. In the past year, 13 new varieties of fresh fruit from 12 countries and territories have been approved. Coconuts and avocados from the Philippines, lemons from Tajikistan, mangosteen from Vietnam, dates from Egypt, table grapes from Spain, table grapes from Portugal, pineapples from Panama, bananas from Mexico, avocados from Colombia, pears from Chile, cherries from Argentina and bananas from Cambodia.
With these authorizations granted in 2019, more than 200 varieties of fresh fruit, from 24 countries, can be imported into China.
As for frozen fruit, 5 new varieties were approved in 2019 for import: durians from Malaysia, avocados from Kenya and pineapples, mangoes and bananas from the Philippines.
According to official data, from January to November 2019, the volume of imports into China of fresh fruit, dried fruit and nuts reached 6.59 million tonnes, an increase of 25.7%. In value, these imports reached $10.21 billion, an increase of 27.6%.
